The challenge of a 15 minute pit stop
I gave out the challenge to a group of early career psychologists this week to do a 15 minute all stop each day. It was received with a little apprehension!
Why is that? What makes it so difficult for to just stop. Perhaps these buzzing thoughts come to mind
"That's being lazy"
"That's a waste of time"
"That's going to set me back"
"I wouldn't know what to do"
"What if I can't do it...."
Yet, if you take up this experiment you may find that you
Breathe slower and deeper
Look up and farther - giving your eyes a rest
Hear sounds you never noticed before
Induce feelings of pleasure, enjoyment and wonder
Provide your brain with a well deserved break
What other benefits are you aware of?
